Everyone can meditate! There are many types of meditation, all with valid benefits and purpose. Heart Based Meditation is a technique that works in harmony with the nature of your mind to make meditation easy and effortless. Forget your preconceived notions at the door- you do not have to empty your mind of thoughts or sit perfectly upright and perfectly still for hours at a time in order to meditate effectively! Regardless of whether you are looking to add another type of meditation to your practice, have struggled with meditation in the past, or have never meditated before, this workshop will teach you how meditation can be a simple and frustration-free practice, as you let go of all the “doing” and “trying” and release the demands of everyday life. Studies show that meditation can lead to reduction of stress and anxiety, improved mental clarity and memory, better sleep and improved energy, fewer emotional triggers, and more harmonious relationships. This method will allow you to return to your natural state of peace with ease, while offering these deeply transformational benefits. INTRODUCTION TO YOGA

This workshop prepares the student with basic knowledge on Yoga breathing and poses to be able to attend any of our regular classes. We focus on the fundamentals, including posture, alignment, movement, breath and relaxation. After you learn the foundations of yoga with Kristi you will participate in our regular 11am Saturday class with Yogi.
You will learn a balanced sequence of yoga poses to stretch and strengthen the entire body. We break down the basics of individual movements and teach yoga fundamentals, geared toward the beginner, but great for students with more experience looking to further develop basic postures. It is our intention to get you moving so that you can feel the effect of the yoga pose, but provide extra instruction at a slightly slower pace to help you build your yoga foundation.
Gokhale Method Foundations Course

What is the Gokhale Method? (Pronounced, “Go-Clay”)
The Gokhale Method is a system of healthy posture and movement to help restore your structural integrity, so you can live an active and pain-free life. You will learn how to comfortably alter the way you stand, sit, and move, to heal from pain and return to a posture that builds strength and resilience, and minimizes compression, tension, and degeneration. We are marvelously designed beings, with an inherent grace and strength like every other creature on the planet. If we respect our natural design, we can function well for close to a century.
The Gokhale Method Foundations Course (GMF) is taught with gentle hands-on instruction, reinforced by theory, to return you to your primal posture. Effects are often immediate and last a lifetime.
Course is listed to 8 students. There are 6 lessons, 90 minutes in length with breaks between. Please bring water bottle and snacks as needed.
Our Instructor, Lori Szalay has been teaching and empowering people as a certified group fitness instructor/trainer/coach for 20+ years in the Atlanta area. She holds a bachelor degree in Mass Communications from the University of West Georgia. As a fitness trainer Lori has worked with many people who suffer from chronic back, neck, shoulder, knee, foot and hip pain. Through exercise many of her clients found relief but never got to the root of the problem; therefore, still suffered from their pain. After discovering the Gokhale Method, Lori realized that implementing postural changes into your life can help eliminate pain and will lead to improvements to one’s overall state of being, both physically and mentally.

Yoga Nidra is a dynamic state of relaxation. In this two-day workshop with Michelle McAlpin you will experience alert awareness through deep relaxation, restore your inherent balance and rejuvenate the physical body. We will provide you with powerful tools and practices to eliminate stress, fears and self destructive habits, allowing you to keep calm and balanced in the face of life’s challenges.
Yoga Nidra is simple and enjoyable to practice. If you can breathe and either sit or lie comfortably for 30-35 minutes, you can practice Yoga Nidra!
Saturday, 9a.m. to 12noon: Yoga Nidra and Moving into the Body. Learn how Yoga Nidra reduces stress in our lives. Our major obstacle to inner peace is stress. We will learn the structure of Yoga Nidra and then move into a practice of gentle yoga and Yoga Nidra.
Saturday, 1:30p.m. to 4:30p.m. Learning to Offer Ourselves Compassion: the Basics. We begin the process of making friends with the body and inviting all that it has stored over the years to come to the surface and be welcomed. We use Yoga Nidra to learn to greet all parts of ourselves with acceptance and with love.
Sunday, 9a.m. to 12noon: What are we storing? How does it affect our behavior? Now that we have a better friendship with ourselves we can look at what thoughts and feelings we are using, how they affect us and how we lessen their effect. Using Yoga Nidra we uncover how to view ourselves in a compassionate, loving manner.
Sunday, 1:30p.m. to 4:30p.m. Stay with your Inner Peace. Fear drives peace away. Joy invites it in to stay. How do we appreciate our joyful moments and learn to take them into ourselves so they are always with us? The experience of Yoga Nidra helps us to learn love and acceptance. From this base of inner peace arises our ability to be a light to others. From this base, we better accept and love others.

If your goal is to create a healthy body that can sustainably practice yoga for the rest of your life, this basic understanding of human anatomy is important. It allows you to practice safely while being confident that the poses you are doing benefit your body. The knowledge you learn will help you immensely in your practice of yoga!
Using the descriptive tools of modern kinesiology, we learn to look past the surface of the body and to see Yoga poses as movements of the skeleton. Emphasis is on identifying which joints are involved, determining ranges of motion and selecting alternatives. Our bodies are complex, but a few anatomical principles, properly understood, make clear how a student performs a Yoga pose.
Great for yoga students who want to know more about the body mechanics!
Instructor, Alex Luz is a professor at Spartanburg Community College. His undergraduate studies include biology and pre-med and he continues his studies in osteopathic medicine.
